FFS CONTAINER LEAK TESTING

7 July, 2015

The Mondragon Assembly group, which designs special machines and assembly lines for the production of medical products, has developed a non-destructive leak tester for single-dose and FFS containers.
With its headquarters in the Spanish Basque Country, the Mondragon Assembly group specialises in automated and robotic assembly lines. It collaborates with various industries to develop this specialisation, particularly in the medical equipment area. In this sector the company has developed a new special machine model: the LT25.
The LT25 is a leak tester developed in collaboration with ATEQ, a French company that specialises in leak detection. Mondragon Assembly presented its LT25 at the latest edition of Pharmapack, where it tested flexible single-dose containers for leaks.
Modular and scalable, this tester has been conceived to adapt to manufacturers’ specific needs for FFS (Form-Fill-Seal) product verification, small and large. The containers are fed into the tester via a conveyor belt and then loaded into the test chambers by a vision guided robotic picking system. Leak testing is performed via non-destructive differential pressure measurement.

2,500 tests per hour
Following the leak test the robotic system places approved containers on the output conveyor and places rejects in a separate tray.
The automation of the entire system enables high test speeds to be achieved (2,500 tests/hour). The LT25 tester is equipped with a friendly HMI (Human Machine Interface), with graphical functions to ensure real-time production validation and monitoring. The HMI includes advanced password management protocols. Additionally, optional data tracking software can be provided.
